The “Message” of Jesus is that God’s kingdom and the kingdom life that comes with it is near and available now and that “eternal life” is not just “life when you die” but it is relationship with God (John 17:3)

The “Ministry” of Jesus / of God’s Kingdom is this: serve one another in love

Not only does the word ministry mean “to serve”

Service is at the heart of true ministry

• Matt 20:25-28
  
• Matt 23:11 - “the greatest among you will be your servant”

In his life / ministry, Jesus brought about a “great reversal”

He shows us that the Way in the God’s Kingdom is opposite of the way of this world
For example:

• last will be first
• greatest will be your servant
• lose your life to find it

He not only taught this, but he showed it through His ministry.
He served by:

• healing the sick
• feeding the hungry
• teaching the crowds
  
• freeing those enslaved by sin
• dying on the cross

Jesus came to this earth and showed us the heart of God

• Philippians 2:3-1

As disciples of Jesus we are too serve

• John 13:1-17
• 1 Peter 4:10-11

Service - “loving, thoughtful, active promotion of the good of others and the causes of God in our world, through which we experience the many little deaths of going beyond ourselves.
