Intro / Recap from last week
How are you?
This phrase has become a standard greeting in today’s world. We typically respond with a “fine”, “good”, “Ok, how are you?”. These answers are obviously just surface responses.
The question we want to ask over the next few weeks here at Quest is “How are you?” But we want to go deeper than just “fine” and “good”. We want to take a deeper look at our life with Jesus and be honest with ourselves.
This is part of the rhythm of spiritual growth. We move from a place of self deception where we lie to ourselves about the condition of our souls to a place where we are honest about the true state of affairs in our life - a place where we acknowledge our need for God’s redemption.
Peter, Rich young man, Nicodemus
Last week we looked at these three potential disciples of Jesus and how they all responded differently to their encounter with the Messiah. We then asked the question, “which of these do I most identify with?”
This Week
Parable of the Sower Matthew 13:1-9
Message of the Kingdom - What is the Message of the Kingdom?
We are lost but God loves us so much that He came to Earth to rescue us. His rescue mission not only entails saving us from death, but bringing us into true life. He came to show us a new way to live. But to find this new life, we must first die to our old way of life.
So our question tonight - How’s your soil?
Group Discussion Questions:
- As you listened to the parable of the sower what did you think / feel / imagine?
- In general, how receptive to change / new ideas are you?
- How did you first react to the message of Jesus?
