Pastor Coon
I was born and raised in Michigan and am a graduate of Northeast Bible Institute (now Valley Forge Christian College) and have been in ministry for over 30 years. I started in ministry at First Assembly of God in Newark, Delaware in 1971 as a Youth Pastor. I then moved on to Moosic Assembly of God in Pennsylvania and took on the role of their Youth Pastor. After a year working with youth, I moved to my home state of Michigan to work with the youth at Mt. Hope Assembly of God. After a year of working with the youth, I moved to Olivet, Michigan to fill the position of Senior Pastor at Olivet Assembly of God.
As Senior Pastor of Olivet Assembly of God, I saw a small congregation grow to 90 through preaching and teaching Christian Education Classes and Counseling. I also wore the hat of “District Camp Director and Counselor” for several years. During the five years spent in Michigan, I served on the Curriculum Committee at the High School, was a member of the Adult Education Committee, acted as the Softball Commissioner, hosted Sr. High Bible Club, initiated Chi-Alpha Campus Ministry at Olivet College (which gave office space to counsel college students), and was an active member of the Lions Club.
I moved to Dover, Delaware in 1979, to fill the position of Senior Pastor at Calvary Assembly of God, where I have ministered for the past 26 years. The congregation has grown from 60 regular attendees to over 1,500, and moved from a small church building on Governor’s Avenue in Dover, to a newly constructed facility (in 1984). In 2003, along with assistance from the Church Board, I spearheaded construction of the newest addition to Calvary, a brand new, state-of-the-art, sanctuary that holds up to 1,000 people.
I hold a B.S. degree in Church Ministries and was awarded an honorary membership into the Delta Epsilon Chi society of the American Association of Bible Colleges for professional achievement. I currently serve as the Lead Pastor of Calvary Assembly of God and am Chairman of the Calvary Christian Academy School Board.
